Vila Real t-shirt was inspired by the Portuguese urban circuit with the same name and features a gorgeous Porsche 917.
For common people Vila Real is just the name of a little town ensconced somewhere in the mountains in the middle of Portugal. But for those in the know it’s the name of one the most challenging urban circuits Europe has ever had.
Great races were held there from 1931 up to the early nineties. Vic Elford, Alain de Cadenet, Teddy Pilette, Stirling Moss, Jean Behra and David Piper were some of the big names.
Over roughly 7 kilometers, drivers had to deal with very narrow streets, sidewalks, cobblestones, bridges and rail-crossing, all of them mixed with eye-widening fast sections. A challenge definitely unsuited to the faint hearted.
Specially when taken at the wheel of something as fast as a Ford GT40, a Ferrari 330 P3 or a Porsche 917. It was this last model that local hero Mário de Araújo Cabral used in 1971.
The dark green 917 used was chassis #010, which belongs to David Piper until this day. After a stunning performance and despite a pit stop which cost him over a minute, Cabral finished in second behind Jorge de Bagration.
This design celebrates the golden era of Vila Real featuring a picture of the said Porsche over the twisting profile of the circuit.
